Last year, Oprah Winfrey visited the Stanford Graduate School of Business to talk about career, life and leadership. She talked about how she got into TV, her purpose and how you can find yours. This video will leave you thinking about life, how to make future decisions, and how to look out for others, while still putting yourself first. Here are some key quotes:

On knowing yourself:

“Listen to your instinct. All of my best decisions in life have come because I was attuned to what really felt like the next right move.”

“There is no real doing in the world without being first. You cannot be a leader unless you take the time to know yourself and why you are here.”

“Every human being comes called. And the calling goes beyond what the definition of your job is. There is an innate supreme moment of destiny for everybody.”

“Everything I have, I let it be fueled by who I am and what I realize my contributions to the planet to be.”

“All of us are seeking the same thing: we all want to fulfill the highest, truest expression of ourselves as human beings.”

On philanthropy/giving:

“You need both logic and emotion when giving.”

“You have to change how a person sees themselves, you have to create a sense of aspiration.”

“I choose education, but I do it in a way that will benefit the person I’m serving.”

“You have to draw boundaries for yourself. How are you going to use your money, talent and time to serve you first then others?”

On the balance between selflessness and selfishness:

“You don’t have anything to give that you don’t have. You have to keep your own self full first. Keep your cup full, then you will have the ability to offer the full expression of yourself to the world.”

“Honour yourself. Stop the crazy mind chatter that tells you you’re not good enough.”

Closing Remarks:
“There are no mistakes. You have a supreme moment of destiny calling on your life. Your job is to feel that, to hear that and to know that. And sometimes when you’re not listening, you get taken off track, but it’s all leading to the same path. There are no wrong paths. You get as much from your losses as you do from your victories. Your losses are there to wake you up.”

“Do not be overwhelmed by challenges, because your life is bigger than that one moment. You are not defined by what someone says is a failure for you. Failure is just there to put you in a different direction.”
