#BankOnMoms: I Had Given Up, But Mom Still Came

At 8pm, I heard your voice outside my class window, ''I am looking for my daughter, Abisoye'', I couldn't believe it! You came! You came on a night bus, begged security just to give me rice and a warm hug.

Hey Mama! Words do not have enough meaning to describe my love for you! My Queen, you have shown up for me so many times, shown up and shown out! Always supporting, always lending a shoulder to cry on, always loving despite my many shortcomings.

It is for this reason that I am unable to pinpoint one special moment with you, because my whole existence has been based on special moments with you. But if I were to try….remember how you took a late night bus just to get to my secondary school in Badagry so I wouldn’t feel left out for not having my parents over on visiting day.., I had cried, I felt lonely and unloved, I fed on other people’s food and went for evening prep, at this point, I had given up on anyone coming.

At 8pm, I heard your voice outside my class window, ”I am looking for my daughter, Abisoye”, I couldn’t believe it! You came! You came on a night bus, begged security just to give me rice and a warm hug. Every time mama! Every day! You have walked life’s journey with me, every step of the way and I THANK YOU. Thank you for your love and constant support that has moulded me to the mother I am today.

Love you forever.
