In a recent interview with Josephine Akhilele, the Group Head of Transaction Service Group, (TSG) Lagos Central, she shared the story of her exciting journey with GTBank and the reason she loves working at the bank.

Here’s the interview:

How long have you been working in GTBank?

I have worked at GTBank for 12 (Twelve) years now.

What has your journey been like?

My career journey has been one of excitement, fun, challenge, hard work, learning and development over the years. I resumed at our Broad Street branch and understudied the back- up then in less than two hours and was ready to run.

From Broad Street, I moved to Ilupeju as the back-up/TSS. This role required an in-depth understanding of CIS and TSG functions. It was easy to settle in because I had started my Banking career in customer service and was passionate about meeting people and solving problems.

From Ilupeju I was moved to Adetokunbo Ademola branch and then Lekki to start our Lekki branch. I was excited and thrilled to be part of the pioneer team of the branch. I had a great team to work with and our goal was to deliver top-notch service to our highly esteemed customers. Did we succeed? Yes, to a very large extent.

After a while at Lekki branch, I moved to Ajah branch and then to 635 Akin Adesola – the head office. The best part of my career was working out of 635 and having the full support of an effective and efficient manager- Sylvia Nwakwue. Working at 635 also afforded me the opportunity of meeting several other staff of the Bank whom I had been relating to via emails.

The responsibility of serving as the Group head of TSG Lagos Central came when I was at 635, hence I had to relocate my office to Moloney branch. The role of Group Head (Branch coordinator) is very challenging and quite interesting as well. My responsibility includes supervision and coordination of all operation activities, performance, and development of the staff in the region, as well as process improvement and quality service.

I have gained a wealth of understanding, knowledge, and values that will enable me to continually excel at what I do. The journey hasn’t been always smooth, but I can testify that it has not only been challenging but also encouraging and rewarding. My journey in the Bank has been worthwhile, and I am grateful to God for this opportunity to be a staff of this esteemed organization in these times.

What do you love about your Job?

I love the fact that my job is spontaneous in nature, you cannot predict what the next day is going to be like. Daily challenges involve representing the unit and Bank in stakeholders’ meetings, driving performance, strategy and resource management just to mention a few. This role affords me the opportunity for creativity, innovation, solving problems and adding value to the organization. It is mentally challenging and involves a lot of hard work.

What do you love about working in GTBank?

It is an honor to work with the best bank in Africa! This place is vibrant, amazing and keeps getting better. There is nothing that we can’t accomplish as the word impossible doesn’t exist in our dictionary. GTBank is special because of the people. We have a great management team full of young and vibrant personnel who are the best and the brightest in whatever they do. We have an open culture and everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. I feel valued here, the brand is great, my managers, colleagues, and subordinates are supportive and everyone is treated fairly and equally. Lastly, performance is always acknowledged and rewarded.

What has been your best experience so far?

My best experience so far was when I made it to the MD’s exceptional promotion list in 2012. That was the best day of my working career, I couldn’t believe it. I was so elated and excited that I couldn’t sleep. It still is an unforgettable experience.
