With so many watch brands for Him, the world of timepieces have been male-dominated for eons. However, women are shifting the tides and reinstating their place as the first users of wrist watches.

In 1868, a Swiss watch manufacturer, Patek Philippe, produced the first timekeeping device customized for the wrist. The piece was designed especially for women. Prior to then, watches were in form of pendants and lockets that were kept either in the pockets, worn around the neck or pinned on one side of the chest, a practice common with nurses.

In the early 19th century, during World War I, men started wearing wrist watches as a strategic military tool. It was frustrating to constantly open a pocket watch during a battle so watches strapped around the wrist served better and military leaders were assigned wristwatches to help coordinate precise attacks.

This automatically increased the need to produce more wrist watches for men as they became the largest market for the jewelry. According to Clive Owen, watches are the only jewelry men can wear. So they wore it with pride, especially the popular brands.

Here are some of those popular watch brands;

Gucci; asides the unique beautiful stripe pattern Gucci is known for, the wristwatch designs stand out for its unique color combinations.

Rolex; Rolex watches are symbols of prestige. As the world’s first waterproof watch, the brand is famous for its iconic models such as the Sea-Dweller, GMT-Master and the Daytona.
