“If you’re going to wear a classic red lipstick, it needs to look absolutely perfect”- Lisa Eldridge
All you’ll need is:
1.) A red lip liner, similar to the color of your lipstick. (For this tutorial, she used Prestige Cosmetics waterproof lip liner in True Red. The color pay-off is amazing and very comparable to the other high-end makeup brands).
3.) Your favorite red lipstick (BM Pro’s Long Lasting Lipstick in ‘Redd’ has excellent staying power and great color pigmentation. Definitely a MUST have!)
4.) A skin-tone concealer or a concealer that is a shade lighter. (Depending on your skin tone, try House of Tara’s Concealer. The consistency is not too creamy/oily and stays put!)
Before applying any lip product, make sure that your lips are properly moisturised and exfoliated. Also apply a tiny dab of foundation and powder on your lips- this helps to prolong the lipstick and also create a blank canvas to work with, especially if your lips are pigmented i.e. dark.
Step 1: Sculpt the outer perimeters of your lips with a lip liner. This acts as an easy guide for the rest of your lipstick application.
Step 2: Fill in the lips completely with the same lipliner and blend out the colour with a lip brush. Applying the lip liner all over the lips acts as a base for your lipstick, which helps make the lipstick last longer.
Step 3: Whatever lipstick you choose to use, always apply it straight from the tube. This will give you the most concentrated colour. It doesn’t have to look perfect; that’s what the next is for.
Step 4: Using a concealer brush and some concealer, clean out the edges of your lips to correct mistakes and make the edges more precise. Make sure to blend out the concealer into the rest of your face to avoid any stark lines. The contrast between the concealed edges and the bright red lips makes the lips ‘POP’ more!
And there it is!
For a ‘modern twist’ to the classic red lip, dab an orange lipstick in the centre of your lips (Try House of Mac’s lipstick in So Chaud and also BM Pro’s lipstick in Sassy). This gives it an ombré-like, two-toned effect, which is trending at the moment.
