The Semi-Finals of the GTBank Masters Cup Season 5 took place on the 19th and 20th May 2016 at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos. The matches featured 8 teams, 4 male and female categories played against each other with the hope of qualifying for the Masters Cup Finals.
On the first day, defending champions Queens College Yaba, showed how they earned their title ‘Queens’ as they beat Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls School by two goals to nil(2-0), also defending their title St.Gregory’s College, Ikoyi defeated Chrisland Schools 4-3 and are headed to the Masters Cup Finals.
Day two of the soccer competition had the girl’s teams of Federal Science & Technology College and Methodist Girls play out a stalemate which went into a penalty shootout which ended 4-3 in favor of Federal Science and Technology College with their keeper named as man of the match.
The last semifinal was an epic match between Kings College and Greensprings Schools. Green springs players were up for the game, scoring their first goal only 4 minutes into the match. The school who had racked up the highest number of goals and have not lost a single match this season marveled the entire crowd with their incisive passing and movement on and off the ball, the match ended 5-2 in favor of Greensprings, with the 2 goals from Kings College coming in the 2nd half when they were already 4 goals down.
