Riddle me this: Where can one find a centuries old palace built out of mud and wood, adorned with colorful motifs, clothed with a rich history and created by a master builder under mysterious circumstances? Is this palace out of a tale in the Arabian nights? Is it somewhere in the dunes of Timbuktu? Or is it a landmark in an old town in the Middle East? None of the above. This striking palace is located in Bauchi state, Nigeria.
This palace which was built by Babban Gwani, a man who was reputed to build only at night and whose mastery is so revered that some people in that region believe that if someone builds a house for them, if such a person is not a descendant of Babban Gwani, it will be as though a house has not been built.
In this edition of Have You Seen Nigeria, we take you on a tour of this historic palace, hop onto the magic carpet and let him show you the world.
Beautiful, right? The great thing is that the state where this palace is located is also brimming with other captivating places like the Yankari game reserves, Mbula hills, Marshall Caves and Wikki warm springs amongst others. Little wonder the state is named Bauchi which in Hausa means the land of freedom and tourism. Now that you have Bauchi listed in your places to visit, what other states are you going to visit before and after your trip to Bauchi? Adamawa, Enugu, Oyo?
